Default Long character string - need to remove part of it

For example:

I need this...
/USA/NORTH CAROLINA/MOORESBORO/CLIFFSIDE STEAM STATION, MOORESB/CLIFFSIDE #5
SHOP-WAREHOUSE/001/0141/

to look like this...
/USA/NORTH CAROLINA/MOORESBORO/CLIFFSIDE STEAM STATION, MOORESB/

Is there code that will do this? Also, there are 56,000 records and the data
baries slight in the different records.

What are the rules that determine how much of the string you wish to keep?
