Default Excel98 to Excel3000 pivot table differences

The change to E3000 is causing me much grief. Today's sobs: some old
macros don't work.

Analysing transactions by date, grouping to 'days' starting at 01/01/05,
ending at 31/12/05, produces a table insisting on showing on the left a
column for '<1/01/05' and columns on the right stretching off the sheet
for 1 Feb, 2 Feb ... onwards. Can't do it manually, let alone by
macro. What am I doing wrong?
