I have two excel files. One is pulling data off the Internet with Get
External Data. I am referencing various cells from the above file in a second file. When the values in the first file change (either because of external data refresh or because I enter new data), I want the second file's cells that reference the first file's cells to change also. In the second (dependent) file, I go to Edit/Links..., choose "automatic", and/or click Update. The only way I can get this to work, is after the source file's data changes, I have to save that file. If I don't do a File/Save the Update steps do not pull in the new data. Excel help says that the cells in the dependent file will update automatically if both files are open... but that doesn't work. I tried opening both files on my PC using the same instance of Excel, and still-- when I click Update on Edit/Links... the dependent file's cells do not reflect what is in the file I am linking to. But if I save the source file first, then it works. I "can" File/Save the source file after every refresh, but saving that frequently causes other problems. Any ideas? I'm using Excel2000 on Windows2000. |
