Default Modify Paste Special to choose absolute or relative references

I use Excel 2002 (10.6501.6735)SP3 and Windows 2000. When using Excel's Paste
Special Paste Links command for a range in a database I found that the pasted
range contains relative not absolute references. There is no simple way of
changing these reference types for an entire range as the F4 command only
works for single cells. I had to use a macro. This could be avoided by EITHER
modfying the Paste Special Paste Links command to allow the user to select
between absolute or relative cell references OR modifying the F4 option so
that it can be applied to a range of cells.

This miust be quite a common problem when you want to display various
versions of a database sorted in different ways but with the contents all
driven from the original.

Default Modify Paste Special to choose absolute or relative references

Hi, Peter,

I found your post very interesting because I'm experiencing the
*opposite* problem.

I have been using Edit-Paste Special-Paste Link in a complicated
spreadsheet where I *want* relative references.

In the past I'm pretty sure that using this method I always got
relative references, but recently I get absolute references which I
then have to change with F4.

I've been googling for a way to set the default for this command to
relative. I can't figure out what setting might have been
inadvertently changed.

Hope we both get an answer soon. Using F4 for each individual cell on
a huge spreadsheet is a pain.

Lucian
