Default Won't accept password to unprotect

Had Excel open twice as I was using dual monitors instead of flipping back &
forth between window view. While exiting of of them and our system was
synchronizing them my machine locked up. Now I cannot open the worksheet with
my password. Or more accurately I wentr through the steps about trying to
change a workbook password and now when I use that password it brings up the
sheet but tell me ... (file name "is reserved by... " but our IS dept has
looked and told me no one is in it on our network and it is not reserved so I
think what happened is something was scrambled during the last cloing down
the sheet process and it is now stuck. How can I get this rather large sheet
open?

You don't get an option to open it read only?

If you do, then just do a saveas to another name.

but to try to correct the problem, close down Excel and all other programs,
then go to the temp directory and delete all files. then reboot and then
see if you can open it.

Yes I can read only but I can't work in it. Also tried the save as and guess
what? It takes the password protection with it! Didn't used to be that way.
Will try deleting the temp files and let you know the results.

Thanks
