Default importing into excel

I have a program that extracts data from serveral tables into a delimited
file, per the client's request.

Now they want to import that file into excel already formatted. (font,
pitch, color, etc).
They also want to import the file so that it creates mutiple tabs. Right
now I extract a separate file per tab.

I have rewritten the smaller program to extract to *.xml so that I could use
that formatting, but excel doesn't seem to be importing the formatting
(though css are not my forte).

Is there any way, I can import formatting along with the text in the way of
tags or such? Do I have to write an add-in to support this?

Thank you in advance,
