Default open password protected Excel doc

Hello all,
Is there a way to force open an excel 2002 document that is password
protected to open? Import it to another application or open as read only or
convert it to a flat file?

Any thoughts? I'm not a hacker, just a frustrated project manager who is
trying to learn about the project. Unfortunately, the guy who I replaced was
fired, so not much of a transition.

Any help would be appreciated,
