Default characters that do not print

Characters are defined by Fonts. What is stored in a cell is a number. For
example, the letter A is stored as 65. The font assigned then is used by
Excel/Windows to show an A. If the font were Windings, 65 would show as
something else (some kind of weird M type character). Type A in a cell,
then select the cell and format it for Font Windings.

I would suspect there are fonts available that show all the math symbols you
would like to have (except the simple fractions).

Excel/office does ship with the equation editor (Insert=Object, select
Microsoft Equation #.0)

You can build your formulas with this and it will float as a "graphic" above
the cell.

Also go to Start=Programs=Accessories=System Tools = Characacter Map.
This will let you view what characters are available in each font. Non
unicode fonts will have 256 characters. Unicode Fonts will have 65536
characters (for those, you might want to select the advanced option at the
bottom of the dialog).

I haven't visited these links, but you might find something useful there.

hi

i have ripped and copied from MSWord a number of characters that excel
for some reason does not carry (e.g.¥Ä,¥è,¥ð,§Ù)

However although it does display these on screen it does not print them
out on documents

is it my printer or the pc or Excel?

..and wouldn't it be nice for maths teacher like me if they had also
created powers of 4,5,6,7,8,9 etc as well as ¨¬,©ö,©÷,©ø?

and dicrete simple fraction characters like 1/6, 2/7 as well as ¨ù & ¨ö
& ¨ú

Dont you agree? or am i missing something

TIA

matt
