Default how to hide the characters in the cell

Select the cell whose contents you want to hide, choose Format/Cells/Number
from the Excel menu, select the Custom entry from the listbox and enter
three semicolons (;;;) in the Type textbox. If this isn't what you're
looking for please provide a more detailed explanation.

You could set its color to the same as the background color.
