Try the "countif" function. Give it the range containing the series of
numbers, and the number you want to count, and it will let you know
how many times it appears.

To count the instances of 3.7 in the range a1:c3, enter this formula
in an empty cell outside of the range:

=COUNTIF(A1:C3,3.7)
