Default cell displays formula instead of value

Hello,

I have a weird problem in a workbook with two worksheets.
I want to display values in sheet2 that have been manually entered o
sheet1. The target where the data's supposed to be displayed are merge
cells

For example in A10:A18 of Sheet2 I entered
=Sheet1!B19

On A19:A37 of Sheet2:
=Sheet1!B20

and so forth.

However, instead of displaying the value of the reference, all cel
ranges in column A of sheet2 display the whole formula (=sheet1!...).
I have tried changing the number format of the cells, but this didn'
help.

Once (I can't remember how), I managed to get a value displaye
properly in one cell, so I copied it to the other cells. But as soon a
I tried to change the reference in the formula (i.e. from =Sheet1!B19 t
=Sheet1!B20), the only thing that gets displayed in the cell is th
formula.

What am I doing wrong
