Default Writing merge codes

Hello Does anyone know how to write merge codes in excel to merge with
a word doc?? Basically, this is what I want to do - I have values in
excel that I want merged into a word template document. I remember
someone at my old job had set up something similar. At the end of the
excel workbook was a page of merge codes with things like <a254 that
merged with <a254 "placeholder" in word . .thanks for the insight all
