Is there a Floor Plan Sketch AddIn (or similar) package
available for Excel? I'm using XP and excel 2003. I want to draw a house floor plan, primarily the exterior wall, possibly interior walls. I need to define areas, draw them and obtain the sq footage for each area. I'll draw areas like 1st floor GLA, 2nd Floor GLA, garage, porch, patio, deck, etc. The excel free form polygon draw option looks like it will work fine for drawing an area. There should be a way to identify the area, with a label, name or something else. The shape is a polygon so there should be an algorithm somewhere which will provide an area for the polygon. I also need dimensions along the line segments. I need a few graphic objects (like left-hand door, right- hand door, garage door, stairs, etc) which can be added to the sketch. I think a library of graphic objects can be created so that should not be a problem. I currently have a 3rd party sketch package integrated with Excel via VBA. I can invoke the 3rd party package, draw my sketch, then transfer the image, sq footage and other info into excel. After looking closer at excel, I think this could all be performed in excel. The main things I need in excel a - define areas - draw areas - compute the sq footage of an area - add dimensions to the area sides, will need some type of scaling option. I may be able to do this by changing the worksheet row/column height/width. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. |
