Default protect only part of a worksheet

How do you go about protecting only part of a worksheet?

I need to protect the top part of one of my worksheets but from what I
can see I can only protect the entire thing.

I find this a little strange..I'm sure there's a way...I'm just not
enlightened enough :)

thanks

Pabs

Pabs,

You can protect the entire worksheet, but leave certain cells / ranges
unlocked.
From the Format menu, Cells, Protection, Locked.

hummm

well. if I protect my worksheet when I click on the "Format" menu it
doesn't give the option to select "Cell..."

and if the worksheet is NOT protected and I click on a cell and format
it to protected, it says I have to protect the entire sheet in order
for that to work,,,,,

so , unleess I'm missin something...that would not work....

You can only changed the "lockedness" of a cell when the worksheet is
unprotected.

So tools|protection|unprotect sheet

Then lock (or unlock) your cells

then reprotect the worksheet.
