Is there any way to capture the user's response to Excels

Do you mean whether the user chose to update links or not while opening
the workbook?

I don't think so.

In Excel 2002 and later you can control (via Edit / Links / Startup)
what happens to links on opening the workbook, and the user need not be
given the choice.
