I can save my macro as an Add-in - then load the add-in into Excel - but
then I cannot run the macro by pressing alt+F8 and selecting it - where does
the function to run my macro go?

I can see the code for the add-in in VBA editor but can't run it without
going into VBA view.... any suggestions?

Colin,

Macros in add-ins don't show up in the Macro dialog box. Typically, you
create a menu item to execute them.

Sorted it! I created a new button and put in my macro name - Excel found and
ran the macro...
