Default purchasing Excel

According to this Microsoft webpage:
http://www.microsoft.com/catalog/dis...1173&x=43&y=12
the academic version is the "full version". However, it
is legal only for teachers and students only.

I second Guillett's recommendation to try eBay. You won't
be able to get it as quickly, but you can save a lot of money,
especially if you get an older version.

A couple more distinctions:
1. Office Standard - lacks MS Access. Office Professional - includes MS
Access
2. Upgrade - must have older version of software on your computer,
else it won't install. Regular -- older version not req'd.
