Default Rank Formula

Hi to all,
I am using a league table to record ongoing chess results. I wish to use
the 'Rank' formula to show who is in first place etc. When I use the
formula it returns an error unless all cells contain a value, can anyone
point me in the right direction please?

The current formula I am using is =RANK(M8,N8:N14,1)

As I say, this works only when all cells contain a value. At present the
cells carry a ' mark which is hidden, this allows the results to be shown
correctly in the table as the bottom half contains formulas similar to
=IF(J8=1,0,IF(J8=0.5,0.5,IF(J8=0,1,""))) This means I only have to enter
the result for one player and both are updated. I can attach the workbook
but that does not seem to be the done thing.

Thanks for any help,
Mickey
