Default Pivot Table Format retention

I am working with a formatted Pivot Table - a standard
excel 2000 format.

I wish to have a space between two columns in the table.
Is there a straight forward way of doing this. I have
tried the insertion of a blank calculated field with "".
The problem with this is that it displays a #VALUE error
message. I have tried to format the cells in the field
but the formatting does not seem to be retained whenever I
change the contents of the pivot table. Any advice would
be appreciated.

TIA
Ron
