There are two ways to protect from file loss.
#1 - within Excel, choose Tools | Options and on the [Save] tab you'll find an option that permits saving a 'recovery' copy of the file at specified intervals. This works while the file is open and in use. To simply back the files up without Excel being open use regular backup strategies with tools such as the built-in Windows Backup process. To get the details and help with setup: Start | Help and Support | System Administration | Backing Up Files and Folders and choose the topic you need. The Common Tasks: Backup entry at this point is probably a good starting point. There are some excellent 3rd party tools for creating entire disk images and backing up indifidual files or folders or drives/partitions such as Acronis TrueImage, Norton/Symantec Ghost and Centered.com's Seconcd Copy. You could use an OnTime event.
Chip Pearson has lots of instructions at: http://www.cpearson.com/excel/ontime.htm and... Jan Karel Pieterse wrote an addin (works in any version) called AutoSafe (note spelling). It doesn't overwrite the existing workbook when it saves. It saves to a user selectable folder. And when it's done, it either deletes these backups (or puts them in the recycle bin). And the user can always restore the backups from the recycle bin. http://www.jkp-ads.com/Download.htm (look for AutoSafe.zip, not autosafeVBE.zip, for your purposes.) Jan Karel's version will know if there was a crash and prompt you to open the last version it saved. jnf wrote: hi is there a way that you can schedule a copy of a spread sheet to dicsc. thanks jnf -- Dave Peterson |
