Default Opening Multiple Workbooks

I am attempting to open up multiple workbooks and seem to be unable to
display both workbooks on my monitor at once. When I open the second
workbook it just takes the place of the first w/o allowing me to display both
at the same time. Have tried to use the taskbar to "display windows
vertically (or horizontally)". Is there an Excel or Windows setting I might
be able to modify? Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

If you've got the workbooks open in the same Excel session, you can use
Windows Arrange... from the menu bar.
