Default Using 'return' button in Excel for Macs

Hi there,
I am entering written data (sentences) into an Excel spreadsheet on my Mac.
When I want to stay in the same cell, but skip down a line (as I can do by
pressing "return" in Word), the cursor goes to the next cell. I was told to
press Alt+return, but this does not work for Macs.
Please help me!
Thanks,
Rebecca
