Default Numbered Rows and Columns

My spreadsheets open with numbers both along the rows and at the top of
the columns. I was copying and pasting a pivot table when this
occurred (it has happened before). I tried a number of solutions, even
to the point of shutting down the computer and opening an empty
spreadsheet. How do I solve this problem. Thanks.

Go to Tools, Options, General Tab, and uncheck R1C1 reference style.
