Default Increased CPU utilization in Excel 2003

Hi,
When I go to modify a cell in Excel 2003 Sp2, its causing Excel to
recalculate and then the CPU of the Excel.EXE file increases to %70. If I go
to tools\options\calculation and change the calculation to manuel, the
Excel.exe file decreases to %2.
Is there a way to reduce the CPU of the Excel.exe without putting it on
manual? Or is there another process in the computer that is causing it to
increase?
The operating system is Windows XP Sp2. Thanks.

Mitch
