I am having complaints from geographical dispersed users in regards to the
time it takes to try and update some of the external references of a xls that
I have distributed.

I thought that by unchecking the "Update remote references" checkbox in the
tools/options/calculation tab the problem would be solved. However, after
doing so, saving the workbook, closing it and opening it again I see that it
still try to connect to the remote references. I also see that the "Update
remote reference" box is checked again.

Can anyone help?
