Default Excel auto recalc is occuring with no change to data. Help!

I am running a large file (200 MB) on a Compaq 3.2 ghz PC with 2.5 gigs of
memory. My OS is XP Pro Version 2 with SP2. My Excel version is 2002.

My problem is that Excel is automatically recalculating my file every 30
seconds, regardless of whether I actually changed anything in it. This is
with recalc-automatically set to on. It does not do this if I set calc to
manual. Another symptom that may be related is that often, my clipboard dumps
before I paste the data I've copied. There doesn't seem to be any logic to
what it is doing. That is, it doesn't seem to happen each time, and it
doesn't seem to be an issue of size. But about every other time I copy
something for pasting, it is gone when I get to the cell I want to paste
into. Lastly, Even if I haven't made any changes to a file (any file,
regardless of size), Excel asks me if I would like to save the changes made
when I try to close the file.

It appears that Excel is interpreting something that is happening as a
cganhe to the worksjheet, and initiating a recalc based on the recalc
automatically setting. But no real changes are actually being input to
trigger this behavior. The other strange thing is that you can sit here witha
watch and time it. It is virtually 30 seconds every time between recalcs.

This may be an Excel problem, but it also may be a larger Office problem by
virtue of the clipboard trouble.

This is a PC I use at work, and my IT group "re-imaged" the PC. This seemed
to clear up the problem about a week or so and then something hick-uped and
I'm right back where I started. I don't remember anything significant
happening. Maybe a file crashed or something and I was forced to reboot. When
I came back in, I had the problem again.

Incidentally, This file does not act up on any of three other machines I
work on. They are slightly older, so I they may have a different OS or Office
version, but I think the only thing that actually was different was the
service pack on them (if that).

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!!
