Default Sorting and merging cells

I have a list I maintain in excel. I have data across in columns, but some
of the cells are merged to allow for different size type, etc. Any way to
sort this data?
Wow, it's hard to describe what I mean, sorry if its not clear!

This is one of the main reasons to avoid merged cells.

Can un unmerge, sort and remerge?
