Default Count-formula used for words

You can use the COUNTIF function to count specific words
You can use SUMPPRODUCT to count unique words

Example:
A1 the
A2 boy
A3 ran
A4 fast
A5 boy
A6 =COUNTIF(A1:A5,A1) returns 1
A7 =COUNTIF(A1:A5,"boy") returns 2
A8 =SUMPRODUCT(--(COUNTIF(D3:D8,D3:D8)=1)) returns 3

If you need something more specific, then be more specific with your question.
