***Date Warning***

HI
I've got a list of DATES (e.g. 02/02/06) in my spreadsheet, and
was wondering if it's possible to have some sort of WARNING displayed
in the same CELL (e.g.OVERDUE), once the DATE is equal to or
exceeded??

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Many Thanks

Hi,

Have you heard of conditional formatting?
This won't put a word in the cell but can be used to colur code overdue
items eg overdue by upto twenty days could be orange & anything greater
than twenty could be red. (Excel always for different formatting for up
to 3 conditions.)
To use conditional formatting select the first cell with the date in it
go to [format - conditional formatting - cell value is] ...
eg, I entered "greater than" & "=today()" & then selected the [format -
patterns] & selected red.

have a play & see if it helps,

Hi not sure how far you got so I've taken it from the start again...
TO CREATE THE FORMAT:
1) Select the first cell with the date in it.
2) go to the menu [format - conditional formatting].
3) choose "cell value is" from the first drop down box.
4) choose "greater than or equal to" from the second dropdown box.
5) & in the 3rd dropdown box type
=today()
exactly as it is with no apostrophe's.
6) then select the ["format" button - "patterns" tab] & select the red
colour.
7)click okay twice.

TO PASTE THE FORMAT:
8)copy this cell,
9) select all the cells with dates in,
10) go to the menu [edit - paste special] & paste special the
formulae.
