Default SECURITY ISSUES

Our IT guy recently changed our server to a linux server. There are two of
us that use certain excel 2000 files to track information. Prior to the
change we could both access the files, if one had a file open it would be
read only. but otherwise we could both make updates. Now if either of us
changes a file it becomes read only for the other person. We can change
access by reseting it to all users before we save it but we are having to do
this everytime we access the files, one of which can be accessed 20+ times a
day. Our IT guy says its an excel issue, Im just trying to make this easier
for the both of us again...any ideas, hints, or suggestions would be GREATLY
appreciated.

I am only guessing here but maybe the IT guy has set all files to be read
only in the linux settings setup..
