Default Move cursor through all unprotected cells in a protected works

Thanks for your time on this Gord - at least I know what the problem is now
and a quick look at the site suggests I will manage with TAB. Really
appreciate it

Yes, sounds like it is an older version of Excel(Pre-2002 version) and the
ENTER key will not jump to unlocked cells only.

The only workaround would be to use the Tab key to move through unlocked
cells.

Or a named range.

See Bob Phillips' site for more on this.

Hi Gord - the saga continues...... I find that on putting protection on the
pc at work I only get a choice of protecting Contents, Objects and Scenarios
- whatever they are! I hadn't realised Its totally different to the
selection box on mine and I presume this is an old version of Excel but as
you seem to be an expert I wondered if I can still find a way round this or
do I have to get them to update the sprreadsheet?

I realise you may not now see this message but thought it worth a try

Thanks for your help anyway

I have noticed that those two options...........select locked cells and select
unlocked cells can be a little flaky at times.

As can Don<g

Thanks Gord - your reply makes sense - I will check tomorrow - presumably
copying the file does not also copy over this instruction. David's
presumption that I have not protected the sheet cannot be correct because
when the cursor moves to a protected cell, a message tells me I can't write
to it. As for Don Guillett woodchuck his reply in the bin.

Thanks again

Make sure when you protect the sheet that you de-select "select locked cells".

This should allow your ENTER key to jump to unlocked cells only.

I have Excel 2003 at home and have completed a protected worksheet with a
number of unprotected cells for data entry. The cursor skips thru each
unprotected cell without trawling thru the rest of the worksheet. When I
copy this onto another computer at work, the cursor moves through EVERY cell,
although it will display a message if I try to enter anything in a protected
cell. What is set on my computer at home that is not set on the works
computer? (I am using the ENTER key, not the tab or anything). Any
pointers would be appreciated
