Default formula help

Hi
have formula in cell c1{ =a1&b1} which copies the words from both cells and
combines them, how do i put a space between the two copied words within this
formula please?

any help for an amateur greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help, i have tried this previously but Excel does not like
the first &amp in the formula

any ideas???

Thanks for all your help guys but no joy, excel still wont allow the 'amp'
parts of the formula to be recognised. Does it sound like i may be doing
something wrong here?

You mean you want to see "&" in the result?
Please give us examples on inputs and desired output
