Default custom formatting cells in excel

I have a cell with general formatting which contain the value 1 3/4#.
Is it possible to format another cell to display only 1 3/4 in numeric
format? Thanks.

You could use:

=--SUBSTITUTE(A1,"#","")

Then format that cell the way you want.
