Default Extend formulas

A B
1 Test =LEN(A1)
2

Is there an option setting within Excel 2003 that will automatically write
the formula in cell B2 (derived from B1) when I input something in A2.

After you do about 4-6 lines it should start repeating automatically like you

Toolsoptions, Edit tab, check Extend data range formats and formulas. Look
in HELP for details
