Default Excel Save Error

Could someone explain the following error, why it appeared, and how I can
prevent this from happening again?

"Excel could not save all the data and formatting you recently added to
'filename'.xls"

I guess the 'workaround' is not to apply conditional formatting to more than
2050 rows.
