I have installed a Generic/Text Only printer and set it to print to file. I
can print to it and capture the output in a file and have no problems with
one exception:

If my print area includes cells with wraped text, the capture file loses the
last several words of the text. This shows up both in print preview and the
output files.


What is going wrong??

I'm not sure, but it seems that if you don't see the wrapped text in print
preview, then going on to the text file output needs to be skipped until the
print output is correct in preview. So this doesn't seem to be about
Print-to-File, actually, if I'm on the right track.

What do you not see in print preview? Is the row height too small to show
the wrapped lines? If row height autofit isn't on, then rows won't increase
their height automatically when needed, such as for wrapped lines. If so,
you need to manually adjust the row height to a greater amount (which turns
off autofit, if it's on), or turn autofit back on with Format - Row -
Autofit.

If that isn't it, describe what you see or don't see as it relates to the
missing wrapped lines.

I just put text into a single cell (A1):
Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their party.

The text is wraped. The column width is 18. The row height is 50. The
font is Arial 10. What I see in the cell is:

Now is the time for all
good men to come to
the aid of their party.

The text is not crowded in the cell (empty space both above and below the
text within the cell.

What I see in print preview is:

Now is the time
for all good men
to come to the
aid of their

As you can see the wrapping in print preview occurs at different point than
in the cell itself. Also the word party is missing in print preview.

Since you're printing to a text printer, there is no provision for different
fonts different sizes, proportional fonts, and all that stuff. So what fits
in a cell in the sheet doesn't necessarily fit in plain text. I haven't set
any of this up to try it, but here are some things to try

Use Courier font, size 10.

Instead of printing to a text file, see if a prn file will work for you.
File - Save as, and in the File type box, select prn. You may have better
luck with this in combination with courier 10.

The sheet zoom may need to remain at 100%, and also the print size (File -
Page Setup - Page tab - adjust to).

Thank you again!! They are all good suggestions, especially the font one. I
may have to resize the cell to handle Courier, but that's O.K.
