Default autonumber column in excel

Can anyone help me out? One column should auto number starting from 1 as I
enter data on the second coulmn of the spread sheet.

If you're going to enter data in Column B, starting in B2,
Enter this formula in A2:

=IF(B2<"",ROW(A1),"")

And copy down as needed.
