Error Message
Hi Everyone!
I have an excel file which is about 2.5 megs in size. As I have developed it over the years it has gotten to the point where it takes quite a long time to close (or save) if I have had it open for a while - maybe 4 to 5 minutes to close and the whole system becomes somewhat non-responsive during this time. Now I am getting a new error message if I try to print multiple sheets at once. The message says: Excel cannot complete this task with the available resources. Choose less data or close other applications. I have searched this discussion group and seen one post for a patch for excel 2002 and I have looked at http://support.microsoft.com/default...Product=xl2003 which refers to named cells referring to other named cells nested 20 times deep. I have all the appropriate office updates available through www.office.microsoft.com and I don't have any named cells at all (so I don't think either of these apply). Does anyone have any other experience with this error message? I am running office xp home SP2 and excel 2003 SP1. I have plenty of ram and hard drive space and have done a full windows and office reload with no luck. Thanks for any help |

I think these are difficult problems to diagnose.
You may want to try recreating the workbook (small portions first). copy and paste the formulas and formats to worksheets in new workbooks. If doing that helps, maybe it's time to bite the bullet and really recreate the workbook. But first, a question. Are you closing excel when you close the workbook? If yes, try this: Close excel windows start button|Run excel /s (starts excel in safe mode) file|open your workbook a couple of test changes close/save your workbook (and excel) My guess is maybe it's not the workbook that's causing the trouble. When you close excel, it updates your *.xlb file (where your toolbar customizations are kept). If that *.xlb file gets corrupted, it can do strange things when excel closes or when excel opens. If starting in Safe mode helped, you can use windows start button|search to look for *.xlb rename all you find to *.xlbOLD Then start excel normally and test it out. If it worked now, then delete those old *.xlbOLD files and recreate your toolbars at your leisure. If it didn't help, rename the *.xlbOLD back to *.xlb. (and keep searching for a better solution.)
