PASTING NON ADJACENT CELLS
I'm sure this is a very silly question, but I sometimes have a problem
pasting non adjaent cells. I select the cells using the CTRL click then copy, which always works fine, but sometimes when I try and paste the cells elsewhere I get an error message saying I can't paste non adjacent cells. Has anyone else come across this? It's very frustrating as sometimes I can do it and sometimes I can't. Anu sugegstions would be welcome. -- FarGardener |

Good morning FarGardner The excel rule is "you cannot copy non-adjacent ranges." But you can. Sort of. If the selection to be copied includes the same cells from a number of rows (eg. A1:A4 and C1:C4), or the same cells from a number of columns (eg. A1:C1 and A4:C4), then it will work – but with two peculiar side effects : any formulae copied will be pasted as values, and any spaces included in the selection will disappear. John Walkenbach provides a routine here that will copy multiple ranges: http://j-walk.com/ss/excel/tips/tip36.htm Alternatively, I have a free add-in available to anyone who e-mails me that will, amongst other things, copy and paste multiple ranges. If you want this, please e-mail me at . Thanks for the response. That answers my question. I hadn't realised that formula were pasted as values, I must just have been lucky! It does seem rather strange that Excel won't make this type of copy as a matter of course - it seems a fairly straightforward action to a non techie like me. Doubtless there's a good reason though! Thanks again -- FarGardener "dominicb" wrote: Good morning FarGardner The excel rule is "you cannot copy non-adjacent ranges." But you can. Sort of.
