hello
i'm not particularly Excel literate, so any help much appreciated i've been given a spreadsheet that looks something like this: A B C D E Prod Prod Site:1 Code Old Price New Price Code New Price 3225 4.83 4.93 2643 £16.22 3280 5.04 3225 £4.93 5500 9.9 5500 £9.90 6457 4.9 30316 £4.50 30231 5.2 31043 £4.50 30316 4.5 6457 £4.99 31043 4.5 30231 £5.40 31220 4.66 31220 £4.66 the last two columns i have pasted in from a word doc - these detail the product code and their new price adjacent - i have created cell ranges based on these - but i'm not sure what to do from there... the table is some 5000 rows, although there are only around 100 prod codes in total - they are repeated and in random order as per the different sites so what i need, if possible, is a function in the C.'New Price' column, that will refer to the first A.'Prod Code' column value, look for it in the D.'Prod Code' column, and, if found, display the price value of the adjacent E.'New Price' column... so i could then drag it down through Column C. i've been messing around with the functions to no avail - i'm wasn't even sure how to entitle this plea for help...! thanks Steve |

It looks like =vlookup() would work for you.
See Debra Dalgleish's site for nice instructions: http://www.contextures.com/xlFunctions02.html Steve wrote: hello i'm not particularly Excel literate, so any help much appreciated i've been given a spreadsheet that looks something like this: A B C D E Prod Prod Site:1 Code Old Price New Price Code New Price 3225 4.83 4.93 2643 £16.22 3280 5.04 3225 £4.93 5500 9.9 5500 £9.90 6457 4.9 30316 £4.50 30231 5.2 31043 £4.50 30316 4.5 6457 £4.99 31043 4.5 30231 £5.40 31220 4.66 31220 £4.66 the last two columns i have pasted in from a word doc - these detail the product code and their new price adjacent - i have created cell ranges based on these - but i'm not sure what to do from there... the table is some 5000 rows, although there are only around 100 prod codes in total - they are repeated and in random order as per the different sites so what i need, if possible, is a function in the C.'New Price' column, that will refer to the first A.'Prod Code' column value, look for it in the D.'Prod Code' column, and, if found, display the price value of the adjacent E.'New Price' column... so i could then drag it down through Column C. i've been messing around with the functions to no avail - i'm wasn't even sure how to entitle this plea for help...! thanks Steve -- Dave Peterson |
