Default I wish to read a xls file (spreadsheet) with XP home.What to do?

My kids prefer to have XP home but i have been sent a spreadsheet that is a
xls file
extension and unfortunately i cant get access to it. Can i download a
programme that allows me to open this file.Thanking anyone who can help.
