Default Automatic Changes to Linked Cells

I eed to find a way to link to a cell and have the link follow that cell
should it chanage due to editing of the spreadsheet. For example in
Spreadsheet 1 I linked cell A1 to cell B1 in spreadsheet 2. Then I made
changes in spreadsheet 2 and the contents of cell B1 are now located in cell
B5. How do I get the link in spreadsheet 1 cell A1 to automatically change
to be linked to cell B5 in spreadsheet 2?

The version of excel that I have automatically puts in the "$" before the
cell letter and number. I have done a test by taking out the "$" to see if
it would follow the original cell and it does not.
Any ideas?

What formula do you have in cell A1 on sheet 1? I've put =Sheet2!B1 and if I
insert columns in Sheet 2 the formula changes to =Sheet2!F1

Is that what you need?

As long as I keep both files open while I am modifying the spreadsheet to
which it is linked, then any changes are updated and the cell is tracked.
However, if I make changes in the spreadsheet to which I linked, without
having the other spreadsheet open, it does not follow the changes when I open
up the one that contains the link.

Donna,

That's your answer. You must keep the workbook containing the link open
when the linked cell is moved. Otherwise, the link has no way of knowing
the cell was moved while it was asleep. This is just part of managing
linked files.
