Default ODBC connection from Excel 2008 on Mac OS X

Hi

I have installed the MySQL ODBC 5.1.6 connector for Mac OS X and
successfully tested a new DSN with our MySQL database.

When I try to do Get External Data from MS Excel 2008, I get "No ODBC driver
is installed" and a link to a number of purchasable third-party drivers from
Openlink Software and Actual Technologies.

Can someone please confirm whether the MySQL ODBC 5.1.6 connector can work
with MS Excel?

BTW the DSN does work fine to connect to the database from OpenOffice.

Many thanks,
Peter
