Default Spreadsheet reverted

I have a spreadsheet with important information in it. I enter data into the
sheet at least twice a week. Today when I pulled up the sheet, it had
reverted to date 8/9/2009. The data in the sheet were up to this date and
the last modified date is 8/9/2009. How can this happen and what can I do?
I am a very experience PC user. I have built at least a dozen systems and
have over 30 years working with computers. I have never seen anything like
this. I can't figure how the system had a version of the spreadsheet over 6
months old considering how often I update it. Do I have any hope of
recovering the data? I am using Vista 64 and Excel 2002. Thanks.

It sounds as if you saved to one location but have retrieved a version from
a different location.

If so, and if you can't find the latest version, did you have the "Save As"
option set to "always create backup". If so, you should be able to open the
backup from a few days ago.
