Default how to avoid formation of temp files

I have been using excel 2007 and i have noticed that the software creates
*.tmp files with 8 digit letters starting with alphanumeric combinations.
these temp files do not get deleted and remain. it is very irritating. can
anyone suggest a way out to avoid such file creation as it required manual
deletion of these files. also these files can be opened with excel.

Maybe you are ending up with unsuccessful save attempts..

--Do you work on a network. If so check out whether you have proper rights ..
--Do you have an antivirus software running; try disabling that for a while
and try saving..
