Default Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem

While attempting to access an Open XML format based spreadsheet we get the
error message:

€śMicrosoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience.€ť

Excel may stop responding after this error message and you cant access file
contents.
