Default Current Region..Cntrl Asterick

When I click in a block of data and hit control asterick, instead of Excel
highlighting that specific block of cells, I get the following message
"cannot create outline". What is causing this problem?

You must be using XL2007. The short cut to select the current region around
the active cell has changed from Ctrl+ * in 2003 to Shift+Ctrl+*

If this post helps click Yes

I have to disagree with Jacob. I can select the current region in Excel 2003
and in Excel 2007 with any of these
a) CTRL+* using the number pad's *
b) CTRL+SHIFT+* using the top row * (on the 8 key, so Shift is needed)
c) CTRL + A
best wishes

Sorry, I am wrong as Bernard mentioned..

For the "problem" mentioned in your query....may be you dont have data in
any of the adjacent cells .
