Default My conditional formatting evaluates only when I double click cells

I have conditional formatting to change cell colour when formula evaluates to
true. When I change the cells referenced by the formula to make it true, the
conditional formatting does not apply. However, if I double click the area
of the cf cells, then it works. Or if I move away from the sheet then back
again. Calculation is set to automatic. Any idea what is wrong?
