Default copying conditional formats

Is there a simplier way of doing this format
copy what will show the acual rule cell used?

Unfortunately, that's how Excel 2007 displays the CF rules. Doesn't make any
sense to me (and many others, I'm sure!).

Poorly designed. Period!

I've created a conditional format that colors red cell A1 if the value of
cell A1 is less than cell B1. Next, I copied this format into the cells
A2:A100.

EXAMPLE
col A col B
row1: 80 90 highlight cell A1
row2: 98 95
row3: 70 98 highlight cell A3
...
row99: 82 90 highlight cell A100
row100: 90 85

In Excel97 this copy worked fine... in Excel 2007 when I select each of
the
cells A2 thru A100 and examine the Rule Manager it shows the same rule
comparison cell... Rule Cell Value < $A2 is applied to group of cells
=$A$2:$A$100. It appears to have worked correcly, in that A2 is compared
to
B2, A3 to B3.... A100 comared to B100. However, when I examine the
conditional rules for each of cell A2 thru A100 the Rules value is always
listed as $B1. Because the cell formatting result appear to work
correctly... this would mean that it must be incrementing the Rule value
for
each cell. If this is the case, I don't feel confortable that the Rule
Value
is always $B1 for all these cells because I cannot be certain that the
comparison is being done correctly. I would perfer to see a similar
formating result like in Excel97. As a work around, I've resorted to
coping
the format into only one cell at a time so that each Rule value correlates
with the cell, however this is a very painful process when doing
individual
100 copies.

Is there a simplier way of doing this format copy what will show the acual
rule cell used?
