Default Find/replace format preview asterisk

Using Find/Replace to change some formatting. I did it in Excel2003, but I'm
stumbling in 2007. Set the "Find" criteria format (which is a bold red
diagonal border), and the Format preview box says: Preview*
and won't return any of the similarly formatted cells (of which there are
plenty).
Nothing in the "Find what:" box. No sheet protection on.
Any help?
Thanks,
Duane
